GEM is a partner in the study on the impact of the international sector in Geneva by the Fondation pour Genève, in partnership with the Swiss Confederation, the State of Geneva, the City of Geneva and FER Genève.

The economic vitality and prosperity of the Lake Geneva region are closely linked to the presence of multinationals. They provide many jobs, are business partners for thousands of SMEs and the self-employed, and make a significant contribution to the welfare state.

They also play an essential role in research and training, and are a key player in raising the profile of international Geneva.

Multinationals account for:

  • 119,169 direct jobs in the canton of Geneva
  • 185,576 direct, indirect and induced jobs, or 47% of all jobs in Geneva
  • 1.51 jobs in society for every job in a multinational company
  • 21.3 billion in value added in the canton of Geneva, i.e. 40% of the canton's GDP
